What to Expect From a Luxury Boudoir Photography Experience
Maybe you've thought about booking a boudoir session for months—or even years—but something keeps stopping you.
You don't know what you would wear. You're worried you'll feel awkward. You have no idea how to pose. You aren't sure how to do your hair or makeup for photographs. Maybe you love the idea of beautiful portraits but can't imagine yourself looking like the women you see in them.

A luxury boudoir experience isn't simply about showing up and having your picture taken. It's about having someone guide you through the entire process—from deciding what to wear before your session to choosing the photographs you love afterward.

Before Your Session, We Get to Know Each Other
Walking into a studio for a boudoir session shouldn't be the first time we've really spent time together.
After you book your session, we'll meet for a casual, in-person consultation and studio walkthrough. This gives you an opportunity to see the space ahead of time, ask questions and start planning your session without the pressure of having a camera in front of you.
We'll talk about the kinds of photographs you're drawn to, go through outfit possibilities and discuss your options for hair and makeup.
But there's another reason I love doing this consultation.
It gives us a chance to break the ice.
Boudoir is personal, and it's completely normal to be nervous about being photographed this way. Getting to know each other before your session means that when you return for your photoshoot, you aren't walking into an unfamiliar studio to meet a stranger with a camera.
We've already talked. You've seen the studio. You know what to expect.
That familiarity can make a tremendous difference in how comfortable you feel—and the more comfortable you become, the easier it is for your real personality and expressions to come through in your photographs.
You Don't Have to Figure Out What to Wear
One of the most common worries before a boudoir session is surprisingly simple:
“What am I supposed to wear?”
You don't need to arrive with a perfectly planned wardrobe.
During your consultation, we'll talk through outfit ideas and the different looks you may want to create. Your session doesn't have to consist entirely of traditional lingerie, either.
Depending on your personality and the photographs you love, your session might include lingerie, denim, an oversized sweater, bridal pieces, something glamorous or a combination of completely different looks.

Professional Hair and Makeup Takes Away Another Worry
You shouldn't have to wonder whether your everyday makeup will photograph well or spend the morning of your session trying to create a look you're not comfortable doing yourself.
Professional hair and makeup is part of the Bella Chic experience.
We'll already have discussed the look you're going for during your consultation, so your session day isn't about making last-minute decisions. It's about settling in and letting yourself be taken care of.
And your hair and makeup don't have to turn you into someone you don't recognize.
The goal is to create a polished, camera-ready version of you that complements the style we've planned for your photographs.

You Don't Need to Know a Single Pose
This may be the most important thing I can tell someone considering boudoir photography:
You do not need to know how to pose.
You aren't expected to walk into the studio knowing where to put your hands, how to position your body or what expression to make.
That's my job.
I'll guide you throughout your session so you always know what to do. Posing, lighting and camera angle all work together to create flattering photographs while still allowing you to look like yourself.
You don't need modeling experience. You don't need to practice poses in the mirror before you arrive.
You simply need to show up.
What If You're Nervous?
You might be—and that's completely normal.
Most women aren't accustomed to having a professional camera pointed at them—much less while wearing lingerie.
That's one of the reasons the experience begins before your photoshoot.
By session day, you've already visited the studio and spent time with me. We've talked about your wardrobe. We've discussed your hair and makeup. We've planned the kinds of photographs you want.
There are far fewer unknowns.
And you won't be left alone in front of the camera wondering whether you're doing something correctly. I'll guide you throughout the shoot.
The goal isn't to force you to suddenly become confident in front of a camera.
It's to create an experience where you don't have to know how.
Your Boudoir Session Can Actually Look Like You
There isn't one correct way to photograph boudoir.
Some women want something romantic and soft. Others love dramatic shadows and moody photographs. You might want something playful, glamorous, casual, artistic or bold.
You can also combine styles throughout your session.

You Get to See Your Photographs the Same Day
After we finish shooting, you'll have the opportunity to see all of your beautiful images that same day.
There's something special about seeing yourself that quickly—especially after walking into the studio wondering how you're possibly going to look in the photographs.
And there isn't a rush to make your selections.
You'll have time to look through your images at your own pace and choose the photographs you love. I'm happy to provide guidance along the way when you want it, but ultimately these are your photographs, and you should be the one deciding which images mean the most to you.
Every Image You Choose Is Personally Hand-Edited
The experience doesn't end when the camera is put away.
I personally hand-edit each image you select rather than relying on a one-click filter or automated retouching process.
My retouching includes high-end airbrushing designed to soften the appearance of the skin while retaining natural skin texture. I strategically enhance highlights and shadows to bring attention to features such as the hair, eyes and skin and to create dimension and a sculpted effect through light—not by changing the shape of your body.
Each finished photograph also receives artistic tonal adjustments along with careful adjustments to brightness and contrast.
My goal is for the finished image to look polished and beautifully finished without making you look like a different person.
Will You Change My Body in My Boudoir Photos?
Not as part of my standard retouching.
I believe beautiful posing, lighting and thoughtful retouching should enhance the photograph without digitally creating a different body.
There are certain things I can address by request. Minimal digital sculpting is available, and tattoos, stretch marks, birthmarks and other features can be minimized or removed if you would like them to be.
The important distinction is that those decisions belong to you.
Some women love their tattoos and want every one of them visible. Someone else may have a stretch mark, birthmark or other feature she'd rather not see in her finished portrait.
Neither choice is wrong.
My job isn't to decide what should be changed about you. It's to create a finished portrait you love.
What Are You Really Paying for With Luxury Boudoir Photography?
When comparing boudoir photographers, it's easy to compare session fees and wonder why prices can vary so dramatically.
But you're rarely comparing identical experiences.
