Creative Boudoir Photography: Making Your Session Your Own
One of the things I love about boudoir photography is that no two sessions have to look the same. Your photographs don't need to follow a particular formula, and you don't have to choose a look simply because it's what you usually associate with boudoir.
Some women want something soft and romantic. Others love dark, dramatic photographs. You might prefer glamorous portraits, something playful and casual, or photographs that are a little more daring. You can even combine several different looks during your photoshoot. The goal is to create a session that feels like you.
Start With How You Want Your Photographs to Feel
Before worrying about what you're going to wear, think about the feeling you want your photographs to have.
Do you picture something romantic and feminine? Dark and dramatic? Fun and playful? Elegant and glamorous? Natural and relaxed?

You can also bring several options and create completely different looks throughout your photoshoot.
What matters most isn't whether something is traditionally considered “boudoir.” It's whether you feel good wearing it and whether it helps create the photographs you envision.
Bring Something That Has Meaning to You
Personal items can make your photographs even more meaningful.
Maybe that's a favorite piece of clothing, something belonging to your partner, jewelry with sentimental value or an item connected to an important part of your life.
Your interests can inspire your session too. You don't have to leave your personality at the studio door just because you're having boudoir photographs taken.
Sometimes the smallest personal detail is what makes a photograph feel unmistakably yours.
Bridal Boudoir Can Be Completely Personal
Bridal boudoir is a perfect example of how personal details can transform a session.
A veil, wedding lingerie, jewelry, your partner's shirt or another piece connected to your wedding can be incorporated into the photographs. Your session can be romantic and timeless, glamorous, playful—or a combination of all three.
And while bridal boudoir photographs can make an incredibly personal wedding gift, they're also photographs you'll have to remember this particular time in your own life.

You might start with something casual and comfortable, transition into a glamorous lingerie look and finish with something more dramatic. Or your session might combine romantic photographs with playful ones.

Personalization also means deciding what you don't want to hide.
Tattoos, curves and other features that are part of you can become part of the photographs rather than something that needs to be disguised.
Professional photography isn't about turning every woman into the same version of “perfect.” I would much rather create photographs that celebrate what makes you recognizable as yourself.
There Is No One Right Way to Do Boudoir
Your session doesn't have to look like someone else's to be beautiful.
You can wear lingerie or you don't have to. You can choose photographs that are conservative or daring. You can love dark and dramatic images while also wanting something light and romantic. You can incorporate meaningful pieces, experiment with something completely different or keep everything simple.
That's part of what makes creating a personalized session so much fun.
